REDEMPTION complete new album and sign to Metal Blade Records
Progressive metal act Redemption have completed recording a new album and signed with Metal Blade Records! The band is helmed by Nick van Dyk (guitars, keyboards), and includes legendary prog vocalist Ray Alder (Fates Warning, Engine), bassist Sean Andrew and drummer Chris Quirarte, as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles, who is presently on a medical leave of absence from the band.
Nick van Dyk comments on signing with Metal Blade: "We are incredibly fired up to join the Metal Blade family. Brian and his team have been friends for years and many of them have been supporters of the band from early days, and the influence of Brian and his label on the history of heavy music is indelible. We're working with friends who are passionate about the music and who are and some of the best in the world at what they do - Redemption is really excited about our collaborations to come!"
With the new record, Redemption is returning from a longer than usual break - van Dyk explains: "We've taken the longest break between records in our history, for a number of reasons. But we are excited to return with what I honestly believe may represent the best record thus far in our career. We are just putting the finishing touches on it now. The songs are unmistakably Redemption, with the combination of energy, urgency, melody and heaviness that marks all of our work. But the songwriting and performances have been taken up a notch across the board. The music ranges from short, hard-hitting power/prog to sprawling epics, including the longest song we've ever recorded. The album is being mixed as we speak and we’re very excited for our fans to hear it!"
Finally, Redemption would like to update everyone on the status of Bernie Versailles: "This is also the first record we have done without the involvement of our dear friend and bandmate Bernie Versailles, who is recovering from the aneurism he suffered last October. We are thrilled with his progress but his road to recovery is going to be a long one. After numerous conversations with Bernie, his family and close friends, we have collectively decided that Bernie's recovery should be directed by what is needed to fully restore his physical well being, not by the needs of this band. Bernie is a founding member of this band and his place will be kept for him while he is on extended medical leave. We have been fortunate to have a tremendous guitarist step in, as well as a couple of other special guests. I look forward to announcing these gusts in the coming week as the album is finalized. The guitar playing on this record is insane - and I think fans of a particular band are going to have their mind absolutely blown and can't wait for the big reveal!"
New music and more details surrounding the band's sixth album and follow up to 2011's "This Mortal Coil" will be released in the coming weeks.
On February 26th, Los Angeles prog-metal outfit Redemption - featuring Nick van Dyk, Ray Alder (Fates Warning, Engine), Sean Andrews, and Chris Quirarte (as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles, who is presently on an indefinite medical hiatus) - will release their sixth full-length, The Art Of Loss, via Metal Blade Records worldwide. The album is available for pre-order now in various formats here. Watch the lyric video for the first single "Damaged”, featuring guest guitarist Marty Friedman, below.
Containing over 70 minutes of their unique blend of passion, melody, aggression and complexity, The Art Of Loss was produced once again by Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Pagan's Mind, Pretty Maids, etc.), who worked with the band on 2009's Snowfall On Judgment Day. The cover artwork was also created by long-time Redemption collaborator Travis Smith (Opeth, Amorphis).
Musically, The Art of Loss follows its predecessor (2011's This Mortal Coil), but their newest work finds composition, musicianship and production taken up another notch, with an array of songs ranging from hard-hitting melodic metal to the 23-minute epic "At Day's End" - plus, special guest appearances from Chris Broderick, John Bush, Marty Friedman, Simone Mularoni and Chris Poland.

REDEMPTION, the U.S. progressive metal band led by guitarist/songwriter Nick Van Dyk, has parted ways with FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder and has replaced him with EVERGREY's Tom Englund.
REDEMPTION's current lineup — which is rounded out by Sean Andrews (bass) and Chris Quirarte (drums) — has finished recording its seventh full-length album, "Long Night's Journey Into Day", for an early 2018 release via Metal Blade. The disc was produced by Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, PRIMAL FEAR, AMARANTHE, DORO) and once again features guest appearances by guitarists Chris Poland (MEGADETH, OHM:) and Simone Mularoni (DGM).
"We are delighted to welcome Tom as the voice of REDEMPTION", said Van Dyk. "He has an incredibly powerful, soulful and emotional voice that our music really demands and we are quite confident that people will be blown away by what we have created together."
REDEMPTION will headline next year's edition of the ProgPower USA festival, set to take place September 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia.

REDEMPTION, the U.S. progressive metal band led by guitarist/songwriter Nick Van Dyk, will release its seventh full-length album, "Long Night's Journey Into Day", on July 27 via Metal Blade. The disc was produced by Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, PRIMAL FEAR, AMARANTHE, DORO).
The follow-up to 2016's "The Art Of Loss", which Van Dyk counts amongst REDEMPTION's very best, "Long Night's Journey Into Day" is inarguably the sound of a band at the height of its powers. As followers of REDEMPTION are also aware, it is the first full-length since the departure of vocalist Ray Alder, and features the debut of EVERGREY vocalist Tom Englund.
"We were unable to tour 'The Art Of Loss' because Ray was not able to actively participate in REDEMPTION any longer, so we decided it was time to part company shortly after its release," says Van Dyk. "Ray is a dear friend, and I have nothing but respect and love for him and what we created together. But at some point, it just became untenable."
Of course, Alder's shoes were not exactly going to be easy to fill, and it was essential that his successor be someone who would immediately command respect, as well as somebody who could exceed expectations when it came to performance. Moreover, it was integral that they had someone who could fully invest in the lyrical themes concerning the human condition, which have always been central to REDEMPTION. So, the fact that from the beginning of his career Englund has penned lyrics about feelings of doubt, fear and despair with an unshakable emotional authenticity made him the perfect choice.
"Because of the power of his voice and the emotion he brings, this isn't going to be a shocking transition for fans," says Van Dyk. "Tom's also a very versatile vocalist, and being a songwriter, he has a tremendous melodic and compositional sensibility, and on top of that, we've known each other for many years, and there is a level of not just professional respect but personal friendship to it all."
Guitarists Chris Poland (MEGADETH, OHM:) and Simone Mularoni (DGM) return as guest musicians. When it came to backing up the music with visuals, the band once again turned to a longtime collaborator, Travis Smith, whose humbling resumé includes records by bands such as ACT OF DEFIANCE, OPETH and ICED EARTH.
