Hot Press has announce that its latest issue — in shops between August 10 and August 23 August — comes with a world-exclusive Phil Lynott CD. "The Lost Recordings" contains five previously unreleased tracks from one of Ireland's greatest rock stars.
Recorded at Trend Studios in Dublin by John Dardis, these five recordings have, until now, remained hidden in the vaults.
Different versions of "Saga Of The Ageing Orphan" and "The Friendly Ranger At Clontarf Castle" appeared on the album "Thin Lizzy" (1971). A different recording of "Dublin" appeared on the "New Day" EP (also 1971). Two of the songs — "Mama And Papa" and "It's Really Worthwhile" — are effectively "new": they were never otherwise recorded, so that even the most ardent of THIN LIZZY fans will not have heard them before.
The CD comes out to coinicide with Lynott's birthday on August 20, which is also the first anniversary of the unveiling of his statue, beside Bruxelles in Dublin.
"It's strange to think that these recordings have been waiting for over 35 years to see the light of day," says John Dardis, producer of "The Lost Recordings". "Prompted by the fact that I had been approached by a lot of people who wanted to hear these recordings, I thought Hot Press was the perfect vehicle to get them out to that huge audience of people who love Irish music and who along the way fell in love with Philip Lynott, both as a musician and as a great Irish character."
The track listing is as follows:
01. Mama And Papa
02. Saga Of The Ageing Orphan
03. It's Really Worthwhile
04. Dublin
05. The Friendly Ranger At Clontarf Castle

Lynott chante sublimement bien.

Philomena Lynott, mother of late THIN LIZZY legend Phil Lynott, took care of unveiling duties last week as Cork, Ireland's Tile and Bathroom World showed off a giant mosaic of her son Philip. Check out a photo of the mosaic at this location.
According to a posting on the Roisín Dubh Trust web site, Tile and Bathroom World opened in Cork in March 2005 as part of the first phase of Mahon Point Retail Park.
The owners of this company, who have been in the tile business for over 15 years, wanted to have a mosaic made up for their new commercial showroom and it wasn't a hard decision when it came to picking Philip as their Muse.
One of the directors of the company, Jim Moore, is a longtime Philip Lynott fan who was at the 1980 concert in the City Hall, Cork. Therefore, Phil was the perfect choice for the mosaic and it also meant that they got a chance to honor a true legend.
Philomena was reportedly honored that her son was chosen for the 3x3 meter mosaic which consists of over 25,000 marble tile pieces.

According to a posting on the Thin Lizzy – A Rock Legend web site, a number of tracks from classic THIN LIZZY albums — from "Nightlife", which was released when Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson joined the band for the LIZZY golden period, until their swansong, "Thunder And Lightning" — may soon get the remix treatment. The rights to the albums are in the posession of band's trustees, including Scott Gorham and Brian Downey. Now they are deciding what to do with them, and remixing the material to make it "harder" and more reflective of the band's live sound appears to be top of the agenda. Scott Gorham has said that this has long been a mission for him. "Even after we had finished recording the albums back then, we all knew that the production was shit," he has been quoted as stating. "The production of a THIN LIZZY album was always so bad, and I could never understand what we were doing wrong when it sounded so great on stage. Then we'd get into the studio and we'd lose it. We'd come up with these 'cocktail' albums. I didn't get it and I always wanted to have a go at fixing it. The first thing we want to do is pick an album's worth of material that we want to remix.
