"They say that life's a carousel
Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well
The world is full of Kings and Queens
who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's Heaven and Hell!!"
Meanwhile lurking by a stone in the mud, two eyes looked to see what I was and something spoke and this is what it said to me .......

Drummer Kai Hahto of WINTERSUN, the Finnish band led by former ENSIFERUM singer Jari Mäenpää, has issued the following update:
"We have to inform you that the last three shows which were in Sweden and Norway are not going to happen in the upcoming European tour. AMON AMARTH are heading straight from Europe to support CHILDREN OF BODOM in their American tour and this is the reason. We are very sorry for this but it wasn't in our hands and we hope to play some Scandinavian shows in the near future. Also the Ragnarok festival that was supposed to be in May 2007 is cancelled.
"The reason for cancelling this festival is because we have booked Sonic Pump studios to mix the new album with Nino Laurenne in May 2007. The schedule for releasing the second album, 'Time', hasn't been able to hold for many reasons and some of them has been really delaying and slowing down the recording process. And when the recording couldn't [be] finish[ed] in the schedule also the mixing had to be cancelled and re-scheduled. Jari is still working very hard to finish the album and to make the best possible second release for WINTERSUN.
"The release date is now planned to be somewhere in August 2007 but I promise that the wait will be worth it! We are very sorry for this delay! Have patience."
Songtitles set to appear on "Time" include "Sons of Winter and Stars", "Land of Snow and Sorrow", "Time", "Fire", "One with the Shadows", "Storm" and "Silver Leaves".
The band previously described the upcoming album as containing "seven epic songs and quite long ones, over 65 minutes of material. It's a theme album. The music has some new dimensions, but has also the recognizable 'WINTERSUN style.'"

WINTERSUN drummer Kai Hahto posted a statement concerning the progress of the long-awaited second album "Time": "I'm making a little statement where we are at the moment. Jari has struggled with the technical problems but there is light in the end of the tunnel. So we got the computer finally from Finland. It's new and it works but it didn't work as we hoped. We found out that 32 bit Windows only allows 2 GB RAM memory to be used and since he has 4 in his computer now, he can't use it all. It sucks! So we are buying a device to help us, a receptor. The receptor has 2 GB RAM and it's a rack device that will help us to use it for some of the synths." "The problem has been that jari can't work the songs in one complete file. He has to have many projects from the same song and when he is making the synths in MIDI, then the RAM runs out and the computer (crashes). This is very time consuming and kills the inspiration because Jari can't compose the synths in a normal way and one wrong note can cost him a whole day's work." "So the situation is now this. We are finished with everything except the vocals and synths. We are not talking about single layer synths. We're talking about more orchestral stuff with layers on top of each other and some songs have cool choirs also! One song is fully ready with the vocals and most of the songs have a lot of vocals, but not totally finished. The vocals have more dimensions (than on their '04 self-titled debut). So people, please understand that the scale for this album is much bigger than the first one. I love the first one too but this is on a different level. You can't compare these two at all! We just have to wait until Jari brings us the food on the table." "So as soon as we are done with recording, we start mixing it. Jari has already started to make the basic sound for drums, guitars and bass. Once the album is already mixed and mastered, Nuclear Blast will need 3 months to promote it before it's released. It's a huge company and it has it's own ways of working... but let's think this way. We die someday, but the music lives on after we have left. That is just what music should be. Jari has the vision as only he knows and he can't give up until the album is ready. He wants to make sure that he is happy with it before giving it to you...to listen."
Singer and Mastermind Jari Mäenpää adds, "Well we knew that 32 bit Windows has 2 GB limit and I actually have the 3 GB switch modification (with 4 GB installed on my PC). It let me have about 2.3 GB for the programs. I found out the hard way, that composing massive orchestrations and massive synth layering is really a pain in the ass with only 2 GB RAM. Because I have to bounce a lot of tracks to wav (format) and later, if I need to change couple of notes, it is so nerve wrecking and a 'inspiration killer' to bounce every track again and again, wasting many work hours in a day (and wasting time from my life and all of our lives for that matter). In real time MIDI you could change those notes in seconds and keep on composing. Those who have been / are in this situation, you know what I'm talking about. Hopefully the technology will get better in few years with the 64 bit revolution/transition..."

News update
The mix has been cancelled and the release of "Time" is delayed even more. I´m sorry to disappoint everyone...again, but the album is not gonna be released this year. And unfortunately Nino has the Sonic Pump Studios booked full for this year, so we might have to think of something else.
Reason for this delay is that, I´ve set the bar really high on this album, but my equipment aren´t even close what I need to work faster. I have to push the gear what I have to the limits to get the best out of them and I have to do a LOT of workarounds which is very time consuming. Then all the thousand technical problems added into the mix isn´t helping. Basically every piece of gear has been broken at one time or another during the making of this album, feels like there´s a curse. Takes ages to solve the problems and send the stuff back and forth making the warranty changes. All this has made me very frustrated and un-inspired. Hasn´t helped with my stress about the deadlines either, slowing me even more. I work the best when I´m happy and lots of times I haven´t been. It´s been the most difficult record to make in my life. The album is very huge, I don´t know if it´s gonna fit even in the 74 minutes of a CD. The track count is very high, about 200 tracks per song. So it´s almost like two albums in one (or three Slayer albums ). But I´m gonna finish this, no matter what.
Now some update of the album progress: All the drums, bass and all guitars (rhythms/melodys/solos and acoustics) has been recorded (probably some add ons will be recorded when the synths and vocals are done). Then I´ve pretty much finished with the intro, that I´ve decided to include on the album. Really atmospheric and huge with some magical Japanese influences. I´ve also started to compose and arrange the synths. I´m trying to avoid the basic (and boring) layering chord stuff and create something really cool to boost the magic of the songs into new dimensions. I haven´t been able to start singing yet, because my preamp and mike "died", but hopefully soon I can. There´s been a demand to know what is going on, so there we have it. Unfortunately the news ain´t always good.
I wish you all a great summer! (But sadly, it´s gonna be a Wintersunless summer).
Jari
