LIZZY BORDEN was created in 1983 in Hollywood California. Spitting venom, stage blood and dripping grease paint while breathing life into bizarre characters bred precisely for the stage. Theme-oriented creations such as "Love You to Pieces" (1985), "Menace to Society" (1986), "Visual Lies" (1987), "Master of Disguise" (1989), "Best Of" (1994), and "Deal with the Devil" (2000) forever cemented icon status to the master showman from the dawn of heavy metal. Now, Years in the making, Lizzy Borden pulls back the cloak to unveil his latest and most frightening creation, "Appointment with Death" (2007) a fatalistic journey to the final destination damned by the wings of death.

"Appointment with Death" was produced by Lizzy Borden and Joey Scott. It was recorded at the Zanzibar studios in N. Hollywood CA and was mixed by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, ex-MORBID ANGEL) at Mana sound in Florida

Like all past Lizzy Borden recordings, "Appointment with Death" is a conceptual piece; this concept is centered around the theme of, as the title implies, death.

Commented Lizzy: "Oddly enough, writing eleven songs about death was no easy task for me; lyrically being graphic or grotesque would have been too easy, and being overly morbid would bring nothing new to the concept. I wrote this just like I have all of the other LB recordings, as a play or a movie. There is a beginning, middle and an end with the lead character taking us on a journey. Death is all around us, lurking, waiting to pounce, striking fear and antagonizing the living in many different ways, I tried to explore some of those ways in the most poetic way that I know how."

The music on "Appointment with Death" was composed by Lizzy, Ira Black, Marten Andersson and Joey Scott and is epic, heavy, dark and melodic — everything a traditional LIZZY BORDEN recording should be and more. With new guitarist Ira Black along with Marten Andersson on bass and co/founder Joey Scott on the drums, the LIZZY BORDEN sound has evolved into a multi-dimensional ever-lasting-gobstopper working just as well in an ipod as it has always done on stage.

Said Lizzy: "These musicians are more then just special guests, they all, each in their own original way helped to create this work of fiction and bring 'Appointment with Death' to life."

Musicians appearing on the CD:

Lizzy (LIZZY BORDEN)
Joey Scott (LIZZY BORDEN)
Marten Andersson (LIZZY BORDEN, GEORGE LYNCH)
Ira Black (LIZZY BORDEN, METAL CHURCH)
George Lynch (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB)
Dave Meniketti (Y & T)
Corey Beaulieu (TRIVIUM)
Jonas Hansson (SILVER MOUNTAIN)
Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, ex-MORBID ANGEL)
Michael T. Ross (ANGEL, HARDLINE)
Adam Cameron
Zane
Marliese Quance

For the album cover, LIZZY BORDEN worked with special effects wizard and make-up artist Ralis Kahn. Ralis designed the set and the look of the band based on the theme for "Appointment with Death". The cover depicts Lizzy as the angel of death in the action of collecting three souls who have ended their lives in three very different ways by their own hands.

Famed "metal" photographer Alex Solca took well over a 1,000 shots in a two-day marathon, involving extras as well as the band (Lizzy, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and Ira Black). At the end of the two-day shoot the set was literally set a blaze! With flames shooting 30 feet into the air!

Lizzy explained: "Because a lot of music is going straight to iTunes, we thought we would pay special attention to both the cover and the back cover and fill the inside of the CD booklet with tons of fun shots from this specialized photo shoot. As we all know, very soon there will no longer be an actual CD to have a cool booklet for. Everything will go straight from the studio to your iPod, so we thought we would really go all out on this one."

The new show for the "Appointment with Death" tour is based around the theme of the new release, with Lizzy playing the lead character (Death). Lizzy and Co. will bring to life the characters and imagery from the album to the stage with special effects master Ralis Kahn at the helm. Ralis is working with the band designing an extraordinary over the top stage show created especially for the "Appointment with Death" tour. Showcasing songs from the new release as well as all the BORDEN fan favorites, the upcoming tour promises to be the show you don’t want to miss.

"Appointment with Death" track listing:

01. Abnormal
02. Appointment with Death
03. Live Forever
04. Bloody Tears
05. The Death of Love
06. Tomorrow Never Comes
07. Under your Skin
08. Perfect World (I Don't Wanna Live)
09. Somthin's Crawlin
10. (We are) the Only Ones
11. The Darker Side

"Appointment with Death" will be released on October 2 via Metal Blade Records.

http://www.rockmymonkey.com/interviews/ ... Borden.php

Rock My Monkey: Cool. Now, how much of a challenge was it to do a concept record about death without going for the overly morbid clichés that so many metal bands today use?

Lizzy Borden: Well, that was the challenge. I mean, the last album I did was called "Deal with the Devil", and I played the devil. So this one, when I decided I wanted to play death, I was trying to figure out how to be able to incorporate that within all the song without just talking about funerals and stuff. Really I was able to just vent through different characters throughout the whole thing. I talk about, you know, pretty much death is in the room on every song, whatever character is talking about suicide, or war, or various different topics that is the main theme throughout "Appointment with Death". But yeah, I was trying not to just go for the easy kill there. I was really trying to get inside the minds of the characters and what they were thinking while they were about to do the things that they were about to do.

Rock My Monkey: One thing I noticed about listening to this album is, and with actually listening to all your stuff throughout your career is that there's a real sense for the craft of songwriting. Do you think that a false sense of brutality has replaced that craft of songwriting in metal today?

Lizzy Borden: In some bands, yeah. They're just going for the easy kill.
It's about crushing the senses so you don't even notice that there's really not a song in there. What we try and do is we are involved in the craft. And even after, you know, usually a song will appear in its basic form, and it's there, but for the most part you really want to try and dig down deep and see what else is involved. There's so many different melody lines. There's so many ways to do guitar solos. There's so many different avenues that you can make. If you write songs for a long period of time, you would want to chase those down, which is kind of what we do.

Rock My Monkey: How was it working on the new CD with your new guitarist, Ira Black? How did he affect the evolution of the LIZZY BORDEN sound?

Lizzy Borden: He was instrumental in coming in and giving us kind of a… we wanted to go a little heavier, but we didn't want to be the clichéd band trying to go heavy. We really wanted to try and adapt the LIZZY BORDEN, the traditional LIZZY BORDEN sound, but also update it a little bit. And he was perfect for that because he came in as a LIZZY BORDEN fan, and that helps a lot because he knew the history, and he knew what the band needed and what it was lacking guitar-wise. So he came in and gave us that and Ira was just absolutely amazing at that. We auditioned a lot of different players, and he came in and nailed it right away. Stuff that he does to the old material just enhances it without changing it, and all the stuff he brought to the new record is absolutely amazing.

Rock My Monkey: Other than the concept of death, is there anything else fans should listen to within the lyrics, like an actual storyline, for example?

Lizzy Borden: Well, in all the records, I make theme records. I just pick a theme and then I go with it. All the songs connect together. I write a little kind of a sketchy script that all the characters go through. They all interconnect together. But at the same time I don't like to shove a concept down people's throats. If I ever did a concept record like "Tommy", it definitely would be a different sort of record. But this one I want all the songs to individually stand up on their own. And I think they have. But if you dig down deep and you read the lyrics, you can see how they connect together. The different characters that are speaking are definitely, they're in the same position throughout the whole album. And we also kind of have a sub-plot in there where we're playing the four horseman, and each guy is obviously a different horseman. So that's kind of a subplot through the whole thing. But really it's down to digging down deep into the lyrics. If you want to dig down deep it's all there. And if you don't, you just want to listen to have fun, then that's there, too. So you don't have to be tied down to the concept.

Rock My Monkey: You have guest players on here that are an extremely diverse mix of metal legends. Did you go after George Lynch and Erik Rutan with that goal of diversity in mind?

Lizzy Borden: Well, each guy came to the project a different way. George Lynch was a friend of bass player, Marten Andersson. Marten actually plays in the George Lynch band whenever they play around. He's the bass player. So it was one of those things where we asked him, we said we had a perfect song for him to do. He loved the idea. He heard the song and loved it, so he came in and blasted away. Erik came in because he actually mixed the record, and he was affiliated with Brian Slagel from Metal Blade Records, our label. He was the one who got that connection together. Corey from TRIVIUM, I met him through someone else, and he was a really big LIZZY BORDEN fan, so when it came time to doing this, I just called him and up and said, "You want to come down and do a solo?" They were touring at the time and when they came into L.A. he came into the studio and blasted one out. Each guy came, and then Dave Meniketti who was from Y&T, just a dream guitar player for me, because when I was a kid I was in front of the stage while he was playing his Les Paul, just absolutely amazing memories for me. So to have him on this record is real special for me. So each guy came to the project a different way. They've all put their stamp on it. It just really makes, it makes each song really unique.

Rock My Monkey: Did any of the guest musicians add anything that would shock anyone? For example, did George Lynch play on one of the more thrashy songs, or Corey playing on one of the more '80s sounding songs, like "Under Your Skin"?

Lizzy Borden: Well, actually Corey played on kind of a traditional LIZZY BORDEN song, "Abnormal". George played on "The Death of Love", which to me really wasn't his style, but that's why I picked it for him, because it was just something a little bit different. When he listened to it, he loved it, but he didn't know what to do with it. So he just started playing, and for about two hours just playing solos all over the song. And Corey came in, and when he did "Abnormal" he nailed it. He knew exactly what the song needed, and he put it on there and did it in one take. Each guy had their different idea on what the song needed. I let them run with it when they came in. Dave did it at his own studio. I think he did it one take, too. He just got it. Each guy I kind of gave a song to that I kind of had an idea would grasp what needed to be done. I could hear their soloing on that particular song. So for the most part everyone just got it right away and knew exactly what to do.

LIZZY BORDEN will film a video this weekend for the song "Tomorrow Never Comes".

The clip, which will be shot on location in downtown Los Angeles with director Kevin Mcvey, is described as "a haunted little tale."

This will be the first video from the band's forthcoming album, "Appointment with Death", due in the U.S. on October 30 via Metal Blade Records (November 5 in Europe). Appearing in the clip will be bandmembers Lizzy Borden, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and Ira Black.

Lizzy Borden explique dans cette interview qu'ils avaient enregistré un album en 2003 mais qu'ils n'en étaient pas satisfaits alors ils ont tout jeté à la poubelle :

http://www.blasting-zone.com/LizzyBorden1.htm

Blasting-Zone.com: What was the main motivation behind the seven year gap between the release of "Deal With The Devil" and "Appointment With Death"?

Lizzy: "Well, when we did 'Deal With The Devil', which was in 2000, we toured for a couple of years off and on. In 2003, we ended up recording a LIZZY BORDEN record that took a little over a year, but in the end, it just didn't feel like a LIZZY BORDEN record, so we shelved it. So we wasted about a year and a half there. We didn't really wanna go right back in and do another LIZZY record, so we created a band called STARWOOD. I've always loved CHEAP TRICK and a lot of those bands from the '70s that had that hard rock 'n' roll vibe with a pop or commercial edge, so we created the band and did a record. We went to Japan, did a little bit of touring here and there and then we went back in to do another STARWOOD record. Right about the time we had finished it...I just had backing vocals to put on it and had to mix it so it would be done...we started wanting to do LIZZY BORDEN again. We ended up going out last summer with W.A.S.P., did that tour and then came back and started working on this record. This record took a little more time to make, but it needed the time to gel with our new guitar player and the whole thing."

Blasting-Zone.com: Is there any chance material from that shelved album will ultimately see the light of day? I'm sure there's a lot of fans out there that would love to hear it…

Lizzy: "No. I think we dismantled it, really. We were just disappointed because we had spent so much time on it. We had no direction, no nothin'. We just started messin' about in the studio and started coming up with different ideas. I think there's one song that ended up on 'Appointment With Death'… it was actually a piece of one of those songs. But I don't think you'll ever hear anything from it. It's just something that we left behind. We have hundreds and hundreds of different unfinished songs and finished songs just sitting around that we've recorded but never released, ya know? So you never know. We might do a box set one of these days where some of that stuff might appear. As a matter of fact, our old sound man just e-mailed me the other day sayin' that he has a live board recording of us in Japan. Little things like that pop out from time to time…little gems that we keep and hideaway so we can use them later on something."

Blasting-Zone.com: Once the touring in support of "Appointment With Death" officially begins, do you have any idea what type of set list you'll be working with?

Lizzy: "This is going to be the 'Appointment With Death' tour, so naturally, we'll be playing a lot of the new album, which I always do. There's a lot of bands that when they put out a new record, they only play two songs…and then you've got bands that only play the new record and don't play the old stuff. For us, we wanna do a little bit of both. We're there to entertain, but we're also there to show people that we have a new record out, so… We're playing one or two songs off of each record. Right now, the set list is around seventeen or eighteen songs (laughs). I don't know if that's gonna get whittled down or not. …The set might be just about right for a headlining show. I think it runs the gamut of giving everyone what they want and giving us what we wants as far as playing new material. It's so much fun for us to play new material, but at the same time, we realize people wanna hear all the old favorites, so we're there for everything. The new show we've put together is absolutely going to be fun. I think people are gonna love it."

Blasting-Zone.com: I'm assuming you'll once again be working with a variety of stage props…

Lizzy: "There's always going to be props. We have giant props that are coming for our headlining tour, which may not happen until next May because we're doing some fly-in shows…and then we're going straight to Europe, doing a mini European tour, which will end in the UK. That will take us to the end of the year. Then, in January, we might have the support slot for a major tour that's like four months long, so…if we do that, we won't be able to launch our headlining tour until next May. We're building the show right now and some of the bigger props we obviously can't take on the plane with us, so… Once we do finally get that thing out, it's gonna be great. There's so many great things that we're talking about and starting to build right now."

Blasting-Zone.com: Prior to the recording of (2005's) "Deal With The Devil", was there any doubt which label you'd be working with? Did you ever consider "shopping" the band to a few different labels?

Lizzy: "That was actually a newly signed deal. It was our first record on a new deal. The '90s were not good to us (laughs). We were floatin' around out there on our own without a label, so when it came time to do another record… I had been talking to (Metal Blade Records founder) Brian Slagel…went to a couple of hockey games and he was like, 'You know, you gotta do another LIZZY BORDEN record…', so that's how it came about. It was one of those things where I didn't know how we were gonna put out the next record and he said, 'Let's do it on Metal Blade…', so we ended up doin' it there. We didn't shop it (laughs). We've never really shopped. I think we tried once or twice and it just seemed like a nightmare (laughs). There's very few people who knew what they're doing. God knows what kind of band we would have turned into if someone kinda manipulated what we do. It probably would have been something horrific (laughs)."

A noter qu'un tribute à Lizzy Borden devrait voir le jour...
Metallicarchangel Records will finally release "Baptized in Blood" — a "true metal" tribute to LIZZY BORDEN. After dealing with a lot of "unreliable bands," the tribute will add its last song — the BORDEN classic "Red Rum" covered by Norway's TOMORROW'S OUTLOOK. What is special about this track is that the vocals will reportedly be done by ex-RAINBOW/MSG legend Graham Bonnet.

"Baptized in Blood" projected track listing is as follows;

01. DEADLY BLESSING – "Notorious"
02. CYPHER SEER - "Hell Is For Heroes"
03. STRONGHOLD - "Visions"
04. FAITH FACTOR - "American Metal"
05. OCTOBER 31 - "Give 'Em The Axe"
06. SOLEMNITY - "There Will Be Blood Tonight"
07. SILENCE - "Ultraviolence"
08. TOMMOROW'S OUTLOOK - "Red Rum"
09. LIGEIA - "Eyes Of A Stranger"
10. HOUNDS OF HELL - "Me Against The World"

Je vénère "menace to society"!!
Tous les albums sont terribles!! :bang:

Ira Black (guitare) quitte le groupe pour se consacrer à ses projets. Il ne sera pas resté longtemps...
Guitarist Ira Black has left the California-based metal band LIZZY BORDEN. The axeman, who has previously played with METAL CHURCH, VICIOUS RUMORS and HEATHEN, recently joined PROPHESY, the new U.S./German group featuring vocalist Brian O'Connor (ex-VICIOUS RUMORS) and guitarist Fabian Schwarz (PARADOX, RUNAMOK, THE NEW BLACK), but insists that his involvement with the new project has nothing to do with his departure from LIZZY BORDEN. "After all we've been through together, we remain friends, even though we didn't always see eye-to-eye with the personal and business dealings with the band," he said in a statement that was released to BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "We had some good times and we made some great music together that I am proud of. It was an honor to play with them, as I grew up as a teen listening to their first couple of albums and I will cherish our time together. Now it is time for me to move on and do something new. I am looking to the future with my new band PROPHESY, and I am also working on a solo record, called 'BlackHouse', that will have notable guest musicians and friends, including Marten Andersson from LIZZY BORDEN playing bass on a song. So I wish the band the best of luck."

Ira made headlines last month when he went on a hunger strike at the Los Angeles County Jail because he claimed that veganism was not being recognized by the facility as "valid and sincere."

Ira was taken into custody the morning of January 3, 2009 on a misdemeanor charge (he apparently had a warrant out for his arrest for an unpaid fine) and was held on $65,000 bail.

Lacey Conner, villainess co-star of VH1's hit TV show "Rock of Love" featuring POISON's Bret Michaels, conducted an interview with Ira Black at last year's winter NAMM (January 2008). Watch the chat below.
