PURPLE RAINBOW is a new project featuring a lineup of musicians who were part of several of the most influential bands in hard/classic rock: from DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW to BLACK SABBATH and DIO.

PURPLE RAINBOW is:

Joe Lynn Turner (RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) - Vocals
Bobby Rondinelli (RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH) - Drums
Tony Carey (RAINBOW, PLANET P. PROJECT) - Keyboards
Craig Goldy (DIO) - Guitar

Keyboardist Tony Carey explains: "Now the members of PURPLE RAINBOW have fulfilled a personal and professional dream and stepped into the spotlight to present the music that is our passion. Driven by our love of performing and their desire to revive the golden years of hard rock, we're staging a return to authentic music that comes from the heart and soul."

The list of memorable songs from their collective discographies is never-ending and includes "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Stone Cold", "Stargazer", "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll", "Street of Dreams", "Smoke on the Water", "Highway Star", "Burn" and many more.

The band is currently looking to book concerts in 2009.

Sauf qu'aucun d'eux n'a jamais enregistré "Smoke on the Water" ou "Burn"... et que Turner ne chante que sur UN album de Purple, le moins de connu de tous d'ailleurs.
Ces mecs individuellement sont excellents, mais c'est un peu ridicule de reprendre le nom de Purple dans leur patronyme alors qu'ils ont essentiellement un lien avec Rainbow.

Oui mais ils ne disent pas s'ils vont composer des chansons où se contenter de faire des shows...
Pour Joe Lynn Turner, ça va pas changer grand chose en fait pour la simple et bonne raison que ça fait 20 ans qu'il fait du Purple/Rainbow en solo ou par le biais de projets.... même les setlists avec Brazen Abott contiennent au moins 30% de Blackmore...
(D'ailleurs c'est marrant de ce dire que aujourd'hui tout le monde continue a jouer les morceaux de Blackmore (Coverdale,Purple,Hughes, Dio, Turner etc ...) mais pas Blackmore lui-même! )...

Moi je regrette que Turner ne fasse plus rien de la période Malmsteen (il a co-écrit tous les morceaux , il a le droit) qui selon moi, reste ce qu'il a fait de mieux!!!

Pour revenir à ce projet, je pense qu'il n'aura d'intérêt que le nom...

Et puis c'est typiquement le genre de nom que tu veux donner à un tribute band de Blackmore ... genre les gars qui jouent dans la rue pour la fete de la musique!

Mais à mon avis, y a des chances que ca fasse jazzer pareil nom .... je suis pas sur que Blackmore, Dio and co voient ca d'un bon oeil ....
à moins qu'ils s'en foutent totalement (ca aussi c'est possible)...

Et pour revenir à ce que disait Flo, Goldy a un rapport tres lointain avec Rainbow ... il n'a rien à voir avec tout ca...

Quand j'ai lu le début, j'ai cru à un lineup genre: Blackmore, Dio, Hughes, Paice, Lord (il n'est pas interdit de rêver ). Finalement c'est vrai que ce groupe n'aura de Deep Purple et de Rainbow que le nom

Un tribute-band à rabais, mais de luxe. C'est putôt n'importe quoi. Ils avaient rien qu'à investir dans le pétrole avec l'argent gagné dans les années 80.

J'ai pas capté si c'est le même groupe ou un nouveau vrai/faux tribute, mais il y a désormais ce line-up dans le groupe OVER THE RAINBOW avec le fils de Ritchie Blackmore à la guitare! Et c'est pas une blague.

Former RAINBOW musicians Joe Lynn Turner, Tony Carey, Bobby Rondinelli and Greg Smith have united with a second generation Blackmore to form OVER THE RAINBOW.

Carey, who has produced several artists including JOE COCKER and DAVID KNOPFLER since his Rainbow days says, "Having done everything from country to opera, I thought it would be fun to play some rock again without the burden of singing everything."

Rondinelli adds, "Over the Rainbow re-unites members of one of the most distinctive sounding bands of all time and introduces a hidden treasure to the world in J.R. Blackmore.''

The son of the iconic Rainbow founder/guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore, is Jurgen ("J.R.") Blackmore. J.R. is a critically acclaimed guitarist in his own right and agreed to join this endeavour after realizing how intense the demand was for a Rainbow "reunion." Over The Rainbow marks the first time that four members from three different eras of Rainbow will take the stage together along with J.R. Blackmore.

Rainbow has spawned over 20 albums (five Gold, four Silver), seven Billboard Hot 100 and Mainstream Rock tracks, six Top 75 UK songs and at least seven MTV frequently played videos. Their longest tenure was from its inception through 1984 when it went on hiatus so Blackmore could reform Deep Purple. A decade later, Rainbow toured and recorded an album. Since then, Ritchie Blackmore has turned his focus toward Blackmore’s Night.

Since 1998, former members of Rainbow and their respective management offices have been bombarded with requests for Rainbow to reunite. Carey, Rondinelli, Smith and Turner answered "the call" but agreed that the only legitimate way that this could be accomplished was with a Blackmore on guitar. Enter: J.R. Blackmore.

How does the younger Blackmore feel about sharing the stage with musicians he grew up watching perform in concert with his legendary father? "I have not worked with them," says Blackmore, "But, I have admired them since I was young. That makes them like brothers.”

Greg Smith agrees that the market for Rainbow’s brand of rock is under served. "I know there is a big demand for this music,” he says, “The fact that all members are ex-Rainbow from different periods in the band's history will give the music the integrity it deserves. A Blackmore on guitar will give it even more authenticity."

While Joe Lynn Turner has fond memories of collaborating with and great respect for Ritchie Blackmore, he's looking forward to working with his son. He states, “J.R. is the only logical choice for the guitar slot for Over The Rainbow. I have followed some of his projects over the years now. He's very talented."

Over the Rainbow will begin touring in Russia during February of 2009.

D'après JLT, Ritchie Blackmore (ou son entourage) aurait voulu empêcher son fils JR Blackmore d'utiliser le nom Blackmore dans ce groupe, avant que ce dernier ne lui prouve qu'il en a parfaitement le droit.

Joe Lynn Turner has spoken to Classic Rock magazine about Ritchie Blackmore's reaction to OVER THE RAINBOW, the band featuring Turner (vocals), Jürgen "J.R." Blackmore (guitar), Greg Smith (bass), Paul Morris (keyboards) and Bobby Rondinelli (drums).

"At first Ritchie was fine about it all," he said. "Then certain people — two of them — who are very close to him started to put ideas into his head.

"Then Ritchie suddenly became very antagonistic. Things got so bad that he insisted Jürgen — his own son — couldn't use the name 'Blackmore.' Jürgen's full name is Jürgen Richard Blackmore — it says so on his birth certificate.

"So, he ended up sending a copy of that to Ritchie, to prove he had every right to the name. Thankfully, that's all behind us now, and everything's back on an even keel."

JLT aimerait bien enregistrer de nouveaux morceaux avec ce line-up :

Q: Are you going to record an album with Over The Rainbow? And if so, will it be new written songs or songs that you and Ritchie wrote together in Deep Purple and/or Rainbow?

Turner: "We have discussed this and would like to do some originals. We seem to think a live CD with one or two originals (bonus tracks) might be the best way to go for a first release. If the newer material is well-received, maybe a CD of originals is possible. Only time will tell. Right now, the focus is on this tour which is really a gruelling schedule."

JLT affirme qu'il est en discussion avec Blackmore (ou son management?), on comprend qu'il pousse à mort pour une reformation comme toujours, mais rien n'est fait encore :

Asked about a possible reunion with RAINBOW leader Ritchie Blackmore, Turner said: "The real talk is that it's probable. We are talking, but we have not sat in the same room yet to discuss anything. And we could get in this room and we could say, 'Well, there's nothing.' We could get in this room and say, 'Well, there's this,' or, 'There's that,' or, 'There's a [RAINBOW] reunion,' or there's just a Blackmore-Turner album, or there's some remakes, or there's nothing at all. So we haven't gotten into that room yet. But we're talking, so there's fingers crossed."
