A spokesperson for LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page has told RollingStone.com that a new band featuring Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham would not go by the name LED ZEPPELIN.

The three musicians have confirmed that they are contemplating going on the road without ZEPPELIN singer Robert Plant, and have jammed witih several potential replacements. Sources have indicated that the leading candidate for the job is Myles Kennedy of the band ALTER BRIDGE.

When asked about the collaboration, an unnamed spokesperson for Page's management company, QPrime, told RollingStone.com, "Whatever this is, it is not LED ZEPPELIN. Not without the involvement of Robert Plant."

Rumors have been circulating for weeks that LED ZEPPELIN, minus Plant, have been rehearsing with other singers for a potential tour. ZEPPELIN reunited last December for a charity concert in London, and speculation about a full tour has been high ever since. But Plant has indicated that he has no desire to do any live work with anyone for at least the next two years.

John Paul Jones confirmed to the BBC that the band has been rehearsing with other vocalists, but he did not mention any names. AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford told a radio show that Steven Tyler had jammed with the group "for fun," while other names in the rumor mill have included Jack White, Sammy Hagar, Dave Grohl and Chris Cornell. White denied that he was approached, while Cornell said he has not been contacted either.

David Coverdale quant à lui a conseillé son ami Jimmy Page de sortir un nouvel album avec plusieurs chanteurs... dont Coverdale forcément

According to The Pulse of Radio, David Coverdale says he told Jimmy Page to back off on trying to reunite LED ZEPPELIN for a world tour and record a band album with superstar guest vocalists. Coverdale, who teamed up with Page for the short-lived 1993 COVERDALE-PAGE album and tour, explained to Uncut, "My suggestion to him when I saw him in the summer was to do what Carlos Santana did with 'Supernatural'. Get a selection of people in, because there's no question John Paul Jones writes fucking kick-ass music. I said Joe Elliott and me would come in and do a track rather than the focus be on one person."

Despite published reports to the contrary Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham have no plans to record and tour together.

Earlier today (Wednesday, January 7), MusicRadar spoke exclusively with Peter Mensch, Jimmy Page's manager, who stated categorically, "LED ZEPPELIN are over! If you didn't see them in 2007 [when they played a one-off reunion at London's O2 Arena; see video below], you missed them. It's done. I can't be any clearer than that."

Reports of ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham jamming with other vocalists first surfaced a few months back, after Robert Plant made it clear he was not interested in doing a LED ZEPPELIN tour anytime soon.

"They tried out a few singers, but no one worked out," Mensch confirmed to MusicRadar. "That was it. The whole thing is completely over now. There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it."

Mensch's comments to MusicRadar appear to contradict the statements he made in a recent interview with BBC 6 Music where he said that it was logical for Page to carry on. "That's what Jimmy does. That's his job, his hobby," he said.

"People don't really understand it," Mensch explained to BBC 6 Music. "Jimmy Page has been playing guitar professionally since he was 16 years old. Jimmy Page likes being a musician. He doesn't want to be a race car driver or a solicitor.

"So they [Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Jason Bonham] did the show with Robert Plant; they had a really good time rehearsing, the three of them, before Robert showed up.

"And they decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill, whatever their bill was at this stage in their career, that they'd make a record and go on tour."

However, Mensch would not confirm any names — despite a list of rumored vocalists that also includes Steven Tyler from AEROSMITH and Myles Kennedy from ALTER BRIDGE.

"I can't comment on any rumors right now," he told BBC 6 Music. "It's gonna be a long and difficult process. And we're not soliciting people. So don't call me about it!"
