THRUSTOR, “Abysmal Fear” is the massive new release from underground Metal legends, brothers Phil and Tony Sardo, (Sceptre/Sardo), and its sole purpose seems clear… to unleash a completely new and intensely brutal era in Extreme Thrash Metal. Accompanied by “Sick Drummer” veteran Tomasz Pilasiewicz on drums, “Abysmal Fear” encompasses the strongly rooted principles that were always evident with Sceptre, Sardo, and Thrustor, in writing Metal that is pure, absolute, and technical in nature; and performance values are nothing short of insanely amazing!
“Abysmal Fear” presents us with a completely new sound in Metal, incorporating Thrash vocals atop a bed of what can be described as pure aggressive Metal, (in all of its forms), that is massive and pushed to its absolute limits. Each song on “Abysmal Fear” is unique with its own character, and all are written with intelligent structures, and razor sharp precision. “Abysmal Fear”, (as described by Phil Sardo), was written with the underlying theme of the human soul in a desolate place, being forced to submit to powers beyond its control, in fear of the abyss.
Recorded by Neil Kernon, mixed and mastered by Mathew Prock for Area 44 Music, “Abysmal Fear” is also to be recognized and credited as one of the best sounding Metal albums, from a production standpoint, to have come around in a long time. Guitar tonnes are incredibly massive and crushing, (Phil Sardo is endorsed by ENGL Amplifiers), and complimented by thick and defined bass guitar, and drum tonnes that are like rapid-fire canonic explosions; Abysmal Fear is totally rich in texture and fullness.
Album highlights include “Brutal Assault” which rapidly moves from insane intro chording to an all-out Thrash/Death assault; “Shroud of Blasphemy” with a grinding fast-riffed, and head-bangers Death chant, arriving to an ending section that is tonally climactic full of soaring leads and overtones; “Tormented Contradiction” moves from total Metal chaos to technical leads, to a classical-based solo, and then to an immediate return to total chaos; and “Burnt Offerings” with its epic nature, takes on a multi-level approach to Metal, with a middle bridge/solo section dedicated to pure Thrash, and an ending that’s like a nuclear explosion.
Brothers Phil Sardo and Tony Sardo continue on their relentless pursuit of writing, performing, and producing Metal that is uncompromisingly heavy, undeniably brutal, anatomically pure, and totally and refreshingly new; “Abysmal Fear” is a testament to their dedication to Metal.
