Puisqu'on en parlait .... Glenn a annoncé qu'il comptait faire un truc spécial avec Coverdale pour commémorer les 40 ans de "Burn".
Dans cet extrait, quelques déclarations du défunt Jon Lord à ce sujet où il explique que ce qui faisait barrage était l'implication de Paice dans Purple ... Il a aussi émis quelques réserves concernant la voix actuelle de Coverdale.
Former DEEP PURPLE bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes tells CBS Local that he has been in touch with the band's ex-lead singer, David Coverdale, about doing something special to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the "Burn" album. He says, "David and I have talked about this weekly since [former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist] Jon [Lord] died [in July]. How we can do something to keep the flame burning. But we don't want to hinder the heritage of the band. Some bands get back together and sound bloody awful. It's the 40th anniversary of 'Burn' next year. I'm not giving you a hint to something that's gonna happen, but you just never know."
According to Hughes, he and Coverdale made an attempt several years ago to reunite with their DEEP PURPLE bandmates Jon Lord, Ian Paice (drums), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), but the roadblock was the band's famously mercurial guitarist. "Jon, David and I were trying to get it together," Hughes said. "[but] we couldn't get ahold of him. We sent carrier pigeons, and the Pony Express. But nobody at 'Castle Blackmore' answered the door. It wasn't meant to be."
Lord told U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine in 2010 that he couldn't ever see a reunion of PURPLE's Mk. III lineup.
"I think it's a dream too far," Lord said. "I know a lot of people would like it to happen, but it would have to have Ian Paice involved, and right now he's committed to the current PURPLE lineup. And I know they are planning a new studio album, as well as more touring."
He added, "I got an email from David recently, and it seems Glenn and Ritchie might be into it, although I don't know how Glenn feels now, with BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION happening.
"Yes, I would love to play with Ritchie again, but don't read anything into that as far as Mk. III is concerned.
"I must admit I'd also have a concern or two about David's voice."
Coverdale and Hughes joined DEEP PURPLE in 1973 to create the band's Mk. III lineup, though co-founding member and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left in 1975, to be replaced by Tommy Bolin.
Ouais, je pense la même chose que Lord. Coverdale en est rigoureusement incapable aujourd'hui. Pour preuve
Faisons le compte alors : Lord mort, Coverdale incapable, Paice dans Mk II, Blackmore dans une autre galaxie, il reste que Hughes en fait qui soit "ready and willing".
Et encore, tu as posté la vidéo officielle de la tournée, donc avec quelques retouches ... et je trouve que ça allait encore.
Sur la tournée suivante, c'était mille fois pire .... ils ont d'ailleurs arrêté cette tournée, Coverdale ayant été completement anéanti vocalement.
Les albums de Whitesnake sortis récemment restent de bonne qualité... mais pour Burn, c'est chaud!
D'ailleurs en regardant les vidéos de 72 à 74 , Coverdale n'a jamais été "époustouflant" vocalement parlant sur le répertoire de Purple.
Bon soit, Coverdale n'a plus le niveau pour ce genre de titres (si seulement j'avais pu entendre "Mistreated" à la grande époque...), mais pour n'en revenir qu'à "Burn" en particulier, je vois pas trop où est le problème, je trouve qu'Hughes s'en sortait encore très bien avec Bee-See-See.
Certes, le break "You know we had no time - We could not even try" passe légèrement à la trappe du fait qu'il se perche plus aussi haut dans les aigus, mais selon moi ça reste encore tout à fait honorable.
Sinon on peut toujours laisser Blackie la chanter...

C'est ce que je disais, il n'y a que Hughes qui ait encore le niveau, entre les 2 chanteurs. Coverdale aujourd'hui ressemble à une ménagère banlieusarde américaine d'âge moyen et a la voix d'un vulgaire chanteur de Sunset Strip époque fin 80.
C'est vrai qu'il a parfois une attitude un peu "grande folle" sur scène dernièrement (même si vestimentairement y a rien à redire, c'est une vraie bijouterie à lui tout seul), alors que quand tu repenses au concert à la "Night In White Satin" de Deep Purple au California Jam de '74 (dont y a plein de superbes photos de son magnifique costard blanc dans son autobiographie, mais j'arrive pas à trouver ça), à l'époque c'était sans nul doute le zicos le plus classe de l'univers :

Coverdale a du mal sur les chansons où il faut pousser fort ses graves, mais comme disait Yacine c'était déjà un peu le cas dans les années 70. En revanche pour les blues et chansons acoustiques, il chante toujours bien de nos jours, ne l'enterrez pas aussi vite.
