Pas forcément un projet doom, mais nul doute que ça sera bien heavy et sombre. Il est accompagné d'une chanteuse, du guitariste d'Evergrey, ainsi que du batteur de Tiamat.
Leif Edling, founding bassist and main songwriter of Swedish doom metal legends CANDLEMASS, is currently recording a full-length album with his new project AVATARIUM.
"I have been writing songs for some time now and together with the guitar player Marcus Jidell (ROYAL HUNT, EVERGREY), I have been recording some demos during the winter that we are shopping now," Edling tells BLABBERMOUTH.NET.
"The AVATARIUM songs are heavy, dark and poetic and we have interest from several labels around the world. Nothing is signed just yet, so we carry on with the recording of the album.
"Last week drummer Lasse Sköld (TIAMAT) recorded his drums in a Stockholm studio. Soon we'll do the guitars and the bass, before singer Jennie-Ann Smith adds her vocals."

New Swedish doom outfit Avatarium has just revealed the cover artwork and track list for an upcoming self-titled debut album, which will be unleashed November 1st, 2013 via Nuclear Blast.
The band features legendary doom metal pioneer Leif Edling on bass, Marcus Jidell (Evergrey) on guitar, Lars Sköld (Tiamat) on drums, keyboardist Carl Westholm, and singer extraordinaire Jennie-Ann Smith. The front cover was created by Swedish artist Erik Rovamperä.
Commented Erik: “As opposed to many contemporary artists eager to express their inner emotional turmoil my ambitions as painter stand first and foremost from a lifelong love of hardrockin´music and the inherently darker iconography of that genre. I’m seldom one to channel personal experiences in my art but rather view my work as part of the Heavy Metal tradition forged by likes of Derek Riggs, Ken Kelly and many more. In the specific chase of Avatarium my sources of inspiration have come to include the heretical idolatry of the pre-Christianized cults throughout ancient Europe and esoteric allegories of the late medieval secret societies”
Guitarist Marcus unveils an insight on the birth of Avatarium: “We are very proud to present the first but not the last Avatarium album to you. When we started to demo the songs on this album we had one thing that we thought was extremely important, we wanted to make music that was heavy, dark and poetic. Also we had an urge to make an album with a very organic sound and no fixing and trixing in computers but just try to make great emotional music. During the whole process we have been looking for feeling rather than trying to make everything technically perfect.
"I think that everything really came together the first day Jennie-Ann came in the studio and sung ‘Moonhorse’. She had everything we looked for in a singer: Rock n' Roll attitude, Jazz and Blues feel, a big and powerful voice and yet so able to be fragile and extremely tender in her interpretation of the songs. If you like heavy, dark riffs and big guitars, emotional, raw and bluesy vocals, thunderous and groovy drums I am quite sure that you'll like Avatarium.”

On reconnait la patte Edling, mais ce genre de chant féminin est un peu surprenant. On dirait un mélange de son album solo, de Chapter IV et de Hammers of Misfortune.
Est-il en plein démon du midi, cette chanteuse serait-elle sa Livia Zita, sa Candice Night?

Elle est juste fantastique cette chanson
Ça commence comme du Krux, puis ça part sur des touches subtiles de Jethro Tull et ça se finit en Rainbow doomisé avec le solo totalement Blackmorien. Juste épique.
Je viens également de voir qu'ils ont repris "War Pigs" en acoustique :

Sinon à noter que l'origine du nom 8vu qu'on en avait parlé ici au départ, comme pas mal de monde je pense) vient de Leif qui l'a choisi directement avant même de former le groupe, un Avatar étant un demi-dieu c'est censé représenter un endroit où ils vivraient, en gros.

L'album est vraiment excellent. La chanteuse a une voix magnifique (elle est même merveilleuse sur Moonhorse et Bird Of Prey notamment ).
Leif Edling est toujours un compositeur de génie, et même si on ressent bien la patte du suédois, les morceaux sont assez diversifiés, entre CANDLEMASS et PINK FLOYD (le final sublime de Lady in the Lamp).
Il ne manque que la reprise de War Pigs (qui est présente seulement sur le EP Moonhorse).
C'est vrai que le nom est aussi bidon que le jeu de mots ! 
Mais c'est du tout bon
