Dutch guitarist/composer Arjen Lucassen (AYREON) will collaborate with former THE GATHERING singer Anneke van Giersbergen on a new project. Arjen says: "Expect an epic concept double album, a combination of 'classical meets metal' and 'acoustic folk."

Ayreon mastermind Arjen Lucassen recently announced his next album as a collaboration with vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering), saying it will be "an epic concept double album, a combination of 'classical meets metal' and 'acoustic folk'." He has posted a new update online:

"The new project with Anneke is progressing VERY well indeed, we’re both excited about it! We’re recording guide vocals now and promise more details soon."



Anneke Van Giersbergen also commented on the project: "Yesch!! I'll be teaming up with the one and only Arjen Lucassen for a concept double album! It will be the two of us, a fabulous overall theme and everything between very loud and pure acoustic. This will be something special!"

"Hi everybody! I'm delighted to announce that my collaboration with Arjen Anthony Lucassen will be called The Gentle Storm. The album is slated for an early 2015 release.

Many of you may already know that Arjen stopped touring some years ago, but together we have formed a killer band to go on the road with me most of 2015 in support of the new album.

"We recorded bass guitar with Johan Van Stratum for The Gentle Storm album. Old Stream of Passion times revisited, and Johan got even better! We recorded all his parts in just one afternoon. And of course it wouldn't be complete without the usual batch of silly childish pictures..."

The Gentle Storm double album is an epic production of Ayreon proportions, divided into two parts as a full-on metal assault (CD1) and lighter folk arrangements (CD2). It also heralds Anneke's return to the realms of heavy guitars and soaring vocals reminiscent of The Gathering's breakthrough album, Mandylion.

The album release will be followed by live dates through the spring and summer European festival season. Known for touring extensively year after year, Anneke will take The Gentle Storm on the road backed by well known Dutch talents. Arjen, however, will not be part of the live production.
